Throughout time we”ve been fascinated by the weather – studying signs of change and making and acting on predictions. Today we can link modern instruments to computers to reduce human error and automate record-keeping. The aim of the Digital weather station with Data storage project is to monitor weather conditions, including temperature, atmospheric humidity, and solar light intensity.
Local weather measurements are extremely important to a wide range of professions, from horticulturists to firefighters. It provides around-the-clock monitoring of various types of applications. For example, it can be used in a greenhouse to manage climate control and help promote favorable growing conditions. In solar power applications, it can verify the performance of photovoltaic (PV) array systems by monitoring solar radiation, DC power, and other parameters. Green roofs can help researchers understand performance by tracking air temperature, turf temperature, soil moisture, and rainfall.

Digital weather station with data logger project consists of parameters monitoring and parameter storage. The PC interface is one of the main features of the project in which various data like the value of parameters, date, and time are sent to the PC. We have used Microcontroller as a central component of the project. Now a Microcontroller has become the main component of many electronic circuits. Also, Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) and EEPROM are used on a major basis for display and storage purposes.
This project consists of two primary modules.
“Data monitoring”: A display unit will show the value of parameters. This will help the person to know the values of sensors. For this purpose, we are going to use various sensors, which will be connected to ADC.
“Data Storage”: The other module is named parameter storage. It can be used to store the parameter values in the memory. We are going to use EEPROM memory IC. An I2C communication protocol is used in this project. These values can be later seen using a keypad provided on the front panel. This system is useful because many times it”s difficult to measure the parameter values manually and also this module is more accurate than the domestic system.
Applications and Advantages of Digital weather station with Data storage:
This electronic circuit is mainly used in “Weather stations”. This project can also be used for the following application:
To calculate and store the temperature and humidity of a boiler in the industry.
This project can be used to store the flow of the water flowing from the dam or a canal
To monitor/display the level of the liquid inside the container
Also, this system communicates with a PC and sends various data like the level of humidity, liquid flow, and temperature of the water.
Future Development:
This project can monitor and store more parameters like Humidity, PH of soil, and pressure, by replacing the level sensing module with a temperature sensor or respective sensor.
This data can be sent to a remote location using mobile or the internet.
We can draw graphs of variations in these parameters using a computer.

Answer: Wind speed is not available immediately. However, it can be implemented using IR sensor or optical sensors.
