Rain detector mini project using microcontroller

This rain detector mini project automatically turns on the buzzer whenever raindrops fall on the sensor. We have used a Low-cost rain sensor to detect the rainfall. This raindrop sensor gives output in digital format. The sensor gives a digital high output when there is no rain. And whenever the raindrops fall, the sensor provides low output. This output signal is given to the microcontroller. The microcontroller activates a piezoelectric buzzer whenever it receives the signal from the sensor. The purpose of the buzzer is to alert the user and the user can take further steps whenever he/she hears the buzzer sound.

Description of the Rain Detector mini project:

LCD display shows various informative messages. LCD display shows the project title when you turn on the power supply. And whenever raindrops are detected, LCD shows the respective messages.

The whole circuit operates on a 9-volt DC adaptor or transformer. You can also operate this project on a 9-volt battery.

Applications of Rain detector mini project

  1. A low-cost rain detector mini project can prove useful for farmers. It will alert farmers whenever it is raining. Then farmers can switch off the water supply motor. This will help in energy conservation and reduce electricity bills, thus helping in saving money.
  2. In our home, this sensor can alert us about clothes drying on the balcony or terrace whenever it rains.

Advantages of the rain alarm circuit project:

  1. This circuit is very simple to design as well as very simple to use.
  2. A rainfall detector circuit is handy for detecting raindrops.
  3. This is a low-cost rain detector circuit and thus it is affordable and cost-effective.
  4. Easy to install.

Future development

This is one of the impressive science fair projects. We can further enhance it as mentioned below:

  1. With a bit of modification in the circuit, we can use it in cars and trucks to activate the wiper whenever it’s raining. We need to add an extra DC motor to this circuit to do this.
  2. If we add a Bluetooth module to this circuit then we can send the alert to an Android app installed on the user’s smartphone.
