Description of the project:

The Temperature and Light Monitoring and Controlling project is used to measure the various parameters like Temperature and Light and display them on an LCD. Temperature and light are sensed by respective sensors. Then the sensor output is amplified and given to ADC. The microcontroller controls these parameters and keeps them at some predefined levels using the relay interface. These relays can be connected to Fan/Heater. For the demo purpose, we have provided a 12v Fan and a 12v Bulb. At the same time these values of temperature and light to a computer through the serial port.

Description in detail:

We have seen various Sensor based project ideas and this one is most useful for domestic as well as industrial use. It mainly consists of the following blocks:

  1. Sensors: We are going to use a temperature sensor and a light sensor to sense temperature and light respectively. These sensors sense the parameters and give the corresponding voltage output
  2. Amplifier: As the voltage output from the sensors is in millivolts, it has to be increased to the 0 to 5 volts range. We are going to use a linear amplifier for this purpose.
  3. ADC: The main part of our project is a microcontroller that reads only digital input (0V & 5V) But the output of the Amplifier is in analog form, so it has to be converted into digital format, for this purpose we are going to use ADC to convert analog output from the amplifier into the digital output to be given to microcontroller.
  4. Microcontroller: This is the CPU (central processing unit) of our project. We are going to use a microcontroller of the 8051 family. The various functions of the microcontroller are like: I. Reading the digital input from ADC derived from Temperature and Light sensor. II. Sending this data to LCD so that the person operating this project should read the values of temperature and light. III. Controlling the parameters like Temperature, light is turning On/Off the respective relays IV. Sending the values of temperature and light to the computer using a serial port.
  5. Relay: We have used 2 relays in our project. First, one will be turned on when the temperature falls below the desired value. And the second relay will be turned on when the temperature reaches above the desired value. (e.g. if the desired value is 20 degrees C, then Relay 1 will be turned on when the temperature is 19 or below and Relay 2 will be turned on when the temperature is 21 or above)
  6. PC Interfacing: We are going to use max 232 IC for pc interfacing, the values of temperature and light will be sent to pc when the key is pressed.

Applications and Advantages of Temperature and Light Monitoring and Controlling:

  1. Although this is categorized under electronics projects for agricultural, it can be used in Mechanical companies to measure various parameters of operating machines like temperature and light.
  2. Can be used in greenhouses to control the temperature and light for the proper growth of plants.
  3. Temperature monitoring and controlling action can be used in the home or various halls like conference rooms, and seminar halls to control the temperature of a room

Future Development for this project:

  1. We can monitor more parameters like Humidity, PH of soil, pressure, and water level and at the same time control them.
  2. Data can be sent to a remote location using mobile or the internet.
  3. We can draw graphs of variations in these parameters using the computer.

A small clarification In this project “Temperature and light monitoring and controlling” can I monitoring voltage and current from your side or any other projects for monitoring voltage and current. Please let me know. Thanks

    • Microtronics Technologies

Yes, we can monitor voltage and current. But how will you vary the voltage and current while giving demo of project? It is easy to vary temperature using solder gun and vary light using torch or mobile flash light.

do u have a similar project in which a 3 bulb are used and there temperature is controlled ?

  • saiteja

can u make it as only temperature controller but not light plzz give me reply……

Have you any idea about project pendrive to pendrive data transfer without using pc.??do we need to program usb host controller or not??
