Project Cost: 6,200
Project Code: 5020
Description of the project:
In today’s modern technology world, where almost all electronic devices or appliances can be remotely controlled, Microtronics Technologies has brought this new project which would help an individual to control the lights, fans, etc. by just talking to them. This project is called ‘Voice Controlled Home Automation project using Arduino’ which enables a user to control home appliances through voice commands sent to an Android app. This gives an ease of controlling the device just by giving speech commands.
A Detailed description of Voice Controlled Home Automation project
Any person can use Voice Controlled Home Automation using Arduino project to control any electronic appliance in their home, shop, or industry. This can be done by an app on his/her Android Smartphone. The user can send instructions orally to the Android application which in turn passes on these commands/instructions to the Arduino, via Bluetooth which is a medium of wireless communication. We have interfaced the Arduino with the main circuit. This circuit has a total of 5 relays. The user can connect relays to various electronic home appliances. You can see in the block diagram below that Device 1 is Fan, Device 2 is Light and Device 3 is Buzzer.
- Whenever the user says ‘1’ on the app, Device 1, i.e. the Fan is switched on. Device 1 can be turned off by saying ‘1’ again.
- Similarly, when the user says ‘2’ on the app, Device 2, i.e. the Buzzer is switched on. Device 2 can be turned off by saying ‘2’ again.
This project of speech-controlled home automation is for controlling any electronic appliances. For demonstration, a DC Fan and a DC Bulb have been used. A battery of 9 volts has been used as a power supply to the fan and the bulb.
Technical Specifications of Voice Controlled Home Automation project
The components that are used in the Home Automation using voice control project are
- Device Control app installed on an Android smartphone.
- A Bluetooth receiver unit is used to connect the devices to the Android mobile.
- A Microcontroller – Arduino Uno. However, other microcontrollers like 89s51, 89c51, 89s52, 89v51RD2, PIC18F4550, AVR ATmega32 can also be used.
- An LCD Display that shows the status of the devices like ‘Device 1 turned on’.
- 12V volt SPST Relay.
- Electrical appliances – Any home appliance. For demonstration two DC devices to the 2 relays (9-volt DC bulb and 9-volt DC Fan) are connected. And 3 out of 5 relays are kept open that can be used to connect additional devices.
- A piezoelectric buzzer is used in this project.
Applications and Advantages of Arduino based device control using Bluetooth:
- This project can be used to control the devices in our homes, offices, and industries.
- Home automation using voice control can help disabled persons use appliances with ease.
- The Internet is not required for using this project.
- Multiple devices/appliances can be controlled using one Android device.
Future Development of the project:
- This system can be further modified so that users can vary the speed of the Fan. It can even be modified to control the buzzer volume.
- Speech Controlled Device controlling can be further upgraded using the Internet of Things – i.e. IOT technology.
Questions and answers about this project:
